If you smell gas, this isn't a page for that

A gas odor, a pilot that won't stay lit combined with a smell, or any suspicion of a leak is an emergency — leave the house, don't operate any switches, and call your gas company or 911 immediately. Once it's confirmed safe, we're glad to help with the cleaning side.

Important: what the $199 actually covers

Our $199 price is a standard maintenance cleaning — a gas fireplace/gas log cleaning and safety check. That includes cleaning soot and dust from the logs and firebox, cleaning the burner ports and glass, and a visual check of the pilot, thermocouple, and connections.

It does not include replacement parts (thermocouple, valve, glass) or gas line repair. If our technician finds something like that, we'll show you exactly what we found and give you a separate quote before any of that work starts.

The process

What happens during a gas fireplace cleaning.

Every maintenance cleaning follows the same process, whether it's a vented or vent-free system.

1

Shut down & let cool

The gas supply gets shut off and the unit is given time to cool completely before anything is touched.

2

Clean the logs & firebox

Logs are carefully removed, cleaned of soot and dust, and set back in their correct position — placement affects both flame appearance and safe combustion.

3

Clean the burner ports & pilot area

Clogged burner ports are a common cause of uneven flames and ignition trouble — these get cleared carefully, along with the pilot assembly.

4

Clean the glass

Glass doors or panels get cleaned streak-free, so you can actually see the flame the way it's meant to look.

5

Safety check & walkthrough

A visual check of the pilot, thermocouple, connections, and venting (for vented systems), then we show you what we found before we leave.

Worth knowing

Signs your gas fireplace needs attention.

A cleaning handles soot and dust. If you notice any of the following, it's worth having a technician take a closer look:

Pilot

Flickering or yellow pilot light

A steady pilot should burn blue. A flickering or yellow flame often means dirty components or an airflow issue worth checking.

Ignition

Burner won't ignite reliably

Inconsistent startup is often as simple as clogged burner ports — exactly what a cleaning addresses.

Soot

Visible soot on the glass or logs

Some soot buildup is normal over time, but heavier or faster buildup than usual can point to a combustion issue worth a look.

Glass

Glass that won't stay clean

If the glass fogs or films over quickly after cleaning, that's often a sign of a burner or venting issue rather than just dust.

Timing

It's been over a year

Even without obvious symptoms, an annual cleaning and safety check is the standard recommendation for gas systems.

Smell

Any gas odor

This isn't a wait-and-see situation — see the note above and call your gas company or 911 first.

If we find something

How it works if your system needs more than a cleaning.

We're not going to talk you into work you don't need, and we're not going to start anything you haven't approved. If your cleaning turns up a worn part or connection issue, here's what happens:

1. We show you, not just tell you. Photos of the actual issue, explained in plain language — not just a line item on an invoice.

2. You get a separate, written quote. Cost depends entirely on what's needed (a part, a connection, more involved work), so it's priced after a technician actually sees it.

3. Nothing happens without your OK. The $199 cleaning is complete and paid for either way. Anything beyond that is a separate decision, on your timeline.

Questions

Gas fireplace & gas log cleaning FAQ

How often should a gas fireplace be cleaned?

Once a year is the standard recommendation, even though gas systems don't produce the same creosote buildup as wood-burning ones — soot, dust, and pilot/burner wear still happen over time.

Does the $199 price include fixing anything you find?

No — $199 covers the standard maintenance cleaning and safety check only. Replacement parts or gas line work are a separate, itemized quote based on what's actually needed, and nothing gets done without your approval first.

Do you also clean wood-burning chimneys?

Yes — that's a separate service since wood-burning systems need creosote removal, which gas systems don't produce. See our chimney sweep & repair guide for details and pricing.

How long does a gas fireplace cleaning take?

Most standard cleanings take about an hour. We'll give you a time estimate specific to your system before we start.
